About

Bio

Michael is a professional bassist in the Los Angeles area. Coming from a musical family, he picked up the bass guitar after his brothers got the “cool” instruments: guitar and keyboard. Music lessons from his mother and bass lessons from his father set him on the right path from the start and it didn’t take long for him to develop a love for the instrument. He quickly developed his skills as a bassist, playing for his high school’s choir and other local school’s music programs.

At the age of 19, Michael studied under acclaimed Motown touring and session bassist Tony Newton, who taught him that the most important thing about playing bass was establishing a strong groove and being musical, not playing a lot of notes.

Michael enrolled in Santa Monica College’s music theory program and received an AA Degree in Liberal Arts, before attending The Musicians Institute in Hollywood and enrolling in the school’s Bachelor’s Degree program.

After a year of study there, he began to pursue cruise ship work with Holland America Line and spent the next two years sailing the world and playing bass in cover bands and show bands across a variety of ships, covering all styles.

He has since moved back to Los Angeles, his home town, and can be heard playing around town in a variety of original music and cover bands, as well as the occasional musical.
